Ladder to success – eliciting project managers’ perceptions of IS project success criteria

The traditional approach to assess information system (IS) project success is adherence planning (ATP) – meeting budget, schedule, and requirements targets. Today, scholars agree that ATP insufficient adequately IS success, but an agreed-on set of criteria still missing. Many works on this topic are based theoretical considerations rather than empirical inquiries. We analyze practitioners’ subjective perspectives by investigating what managers consider relevant for assessment. interview eleven experienced in Germany, applying Repertory Grid Laddering minimize potential biases. Our results yield eight criteria, indicating like process efficiency stakeholder satisfaction must be considered addition ATP. Scholars can use our findings apply the identified future studies. Practitioners gain insights into expert perspective might rethink way assessing their projects.
